A man who fought with Milwaukee police officers on the northwest side Thursday stole an officer's gun from its holster during the struggle and pointed the gun at the officer during a foot pursuit before being arrested, said Anne E. Schwartz, a department spokeswoman.

The incident began about 12:20 p.m. Thursday when two uniformed officers stopped to talk with three 19-year-old men and a 16-year-old boy near N. 64th St. and W. Silver Spring Drive.

One of the men, a felon, became uncooperative, prompting the officers to pat him down. An officer found a gun in the man's waistband, but before the officer could remove the gun, the man began to fight with the officer for control of the weapon.

The three others joined in the fight against the two officers. The officers eventually arrested the man found with the gun, recovered the weapon and called for backup.

In the meantime, however, the two other men and the boy fled through nearby yards.

The officer who had patted down the man with the gun ran after them. At one point, one of them turned and pointed a gun at the officer.

The officer yelled at the man not to shoot while reaching for his own weapon, only to realize that the man, 19, had stolen his gun during the fight and was now pointing it at him.

The officer radioed his location and the man's description while the man ran away without firing a shot.

Officers who responded to the scene found the trio hiding in a shed.

The officer's gun was found in a nearby yard.

if only the had gotten away...or better yet...nevermind. wonder what they were doing in the first place. but the idea that it's that easy to just get in a tussle with the police and steal their guns is amazing.

You should assume that police read this forum, so watch what you say.

As I've mentioned to others. Look at the bottom of the main page where it says who's online. Invariably, there's me and 2-3 other 'unregistered' users - ALL THE TIME! If folks were that interested, I bet they'd start posting. Well with the craigslist scandal going on http://www.jsonline.com/story/index.aspx?id=737115
I can hope that this is the most boring site for cops to monitor.

I think we should be happy that nobody was killed. Frankly, I'm surprised the cops didn't come down with full force knowing what they lost (including future credibility). Look what happened to Frank Jude over an allegedly missing badge.

That article also shows just how much evidence people leave around while online. It really can't be emphasized enough, there is no anonymity online.
