|
|
At the last discussion we talked about future topics and wanted to revist some that weren't as well attended due to schedueling conflicts (like holidays) or that were well attended and people would like to continue to discuss.
Here is a new schedule that was put together after some new topics were discussed:
April 6th: Why anarchy and anti-authoritarianism?
April 13th: Sex and desire
April 20th: ending civilization
April 27th: response to the essay/book "call" regarding the fostering and developing insurrectionary cultures of resistance to the current situation
May 4th: resisting state repression
May 11th: direct action
May 18th: Voting
May 25th: response to the zine "the T word" regarding transgender and queer liberation
If anyone has any suggestions or problems let me know and we can change it. _________________ "From a certain point onward, there is no turning back. That is the point that must be reached." Franz Kafka

I guess I will be making this into another flier.
Does anyone have any criticisms of the format that the discussions have been in or desire that they change in some way? Maybe in the summer we could meet in a park. _________________ "From a certain point onward, there is no turning back. That is the point that must be reached." Franz Kafka

Would it be a good idea to make posts for some of these topics in the forum to encourage discussion on them for people who can't come to the in person discussions? _________________ "From a certain point onward, there is no turning back. That is the point that must be reached." Franz Kafka

as long as things don't get too cluttered i don't see why not...not sure i'd participate in a discussion online if i'm there in person, but i can understand why someone would want to. _________________ Mostpeople have less in common with ourselves than the squarerootofminusone.

we could just start with one and see how that goes? What would be a good topic to start with? sex and desire, direct action, voting, etc? _________________ "From a certain point onward, there is no turning back. That is the point that must be reached." Franz Kafka

we could talk about this fucking rediculous article that i found about a beauty pageant...you'll have to see it for yourself...i'm not sure what i have to think about this. it's women who have survived land mine explosions and do a pageant like any other...a miss america with a violent globalized twist...a bit cynical and rediculous if you ask me.

That beauty pagent (sp?) sounds pretty fucked. It's an odd way to pay tribute to those who had limbs blown off surely to some extend thanks to the tensions and conflict set in motion by western colonialism and they are in turn told to be valued by this culture which destroyed them and makes their lives miserable. Funny thing too is that they wouldn't even be significant if it weren't for their limbs being blown off, but it's more of an afterthought.
I made a flier for the next set of anarchist discussions. _________________ "From a certain point onward, there is no turning back. That is the point that must be reached." Franz Kafka

Rock on those look like good discussion topics! However, if a bunch of people are going to 'finding our roots' in chicago, should we have discussion on the 27th of april? Actually, the date is in dispute as the FOR website says april 25-27 while the fliers on the same site say april 18-20. More on this later.
Additionally, if we think several more people will want to come talk about civilization a sunday after derrick jensen speaks, maybe we should have the call discussion earlier?
Mario, I really dig the flyer design.
See y'all at the cupcake comp!

From the Finding our roots site:
"Due to conflict with some other midwest anarchist/activist events, we’ve changed the dates of the conference from April 25-27 to April 18-20. Please take note!"
So April 18-20th it is. Should we have a discussion that weekend?

Thanks a lot for bringing it up. Yeah, I think we should change the dates and encourage people to go to the finding our roots stuff in chicago instead. I would like to be there. I would still like to talk about "ending civilization" either before or after jensen comes, the discussion people seemed least interested in (because people were on relatively the same page) was voting, so we could get rid of that one and mix up the dates a bit. I'll change and repost the fliers (i made another one too while I was waiting for my group project group to show up). I'll try to have some made before saturday with the fixed dates.
Maybe "desire and passion" could go where voting was and "ending civilization" would go on April 13th? _________________ "From a certain point onward, there is no turning back. That is the point that must be reached." Franz Kafka

I also think the 'voting' topic is pretty unnecessary. _________________ "Down with a world in which the guarantee that we will not die of starvation has been purchased with the guarantee that we will die of boredom."

I'm pretty good with this but again, I'm just wondering if we're not missing a good opportunity to bring in new discussers by mentioning at the DJ event that we'll be having a friendly discussion on the matter (civilization) some weekend after the event. If we don't think this would be a missed opportunity then I'm fine with Mario's suggested change.

Does this seem better?
April 6th: Why anarchy and anti-authoritarianism?
April 13th: Sex and desire
April 18th-20th: Finding Our Roots Anarchist Conference in Chicago
April 27th: response to the essay/book "call" regarding the fostering and developing insurrectionary cultures of resistance to the current situation
May 4th: ending civilization
May 11th: direct action
May 18th: resisting state repression
