what's with the rank?

bmalice and i were wondering...why does everyone get a rank based on how much they've posted? i guess it's not a huge deal or anything, but i'm real curious who thought of that or why something that's so hierarchical in nature is part of this site?

basically i'm just cranky that i'm a 'coffee shop radical'. i don't even like coffee.

I didn't make it, but it is just supposed to be a tongue and cheek joke. If enough people don't like it we can easily take it off.
